Arrest Made in a Homicide: 1500 Block of 18th Street, Southeast

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch announced an arrest has been made in reference to a fatal shooting that occurred on Saturday, August 17, 2019, in the 1500 block of 18th Street, Southeast.

At approximately 3:05 am, members of the Sixth District responded to the 1700 block of Q Street, Southeast for the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, members located an adult male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the 1500 block of 18th Street, Southeast. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. Despite all life-saving efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The decedent has been identified as 28 year-old William Roland, of Southeast, DC.

On Wednesday, April 29, 2020, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant and booking order, 26 year-old Melvin Simmons, of Oxon Hill, MD, was transported to MPD’s Homicide Branch where he was charged with First Degree Murder while Armed.
