Press Release(Washington, DC) – The District’s reported data for Sunday, July 12, 2020 includes 59 new positive coronavirus (COVID-19) cases, bringing the District’s overall positive case total to 10,906.
The District reported no additional COVID-19 related deaths.
Tragically, 568 District residents have lost their lives due to COVID-19.

Based on updated data, DC Health has determined that the District has experienced five days of sustained decrease in community spread of COVID-19 during Phase Two. That data is represented in the chart below.
The District has the ability to contact trace 100% of new cases within one day of report. That data is represented in the chart below.
The District has the ability to contact trace 95.7% of close contacts of positive cases within two days. That data is represented in the chart below.
The District’s data shows a sustained transmission rate of .92. That data is represented in the chart below.
The District’s data shows a positivity rate of 5.0% among residents. That data is represented in the chart below.
The District’s utilization of beds at acute care hospitals is at 77.1% of capacity. That data is represented in the chart below.

Guidance has been published for healthcare providers, employers and the public to provide information on what to do if you have been diagnosed with or are a contact of someone who has COVID-19.
Residents should take the following actions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick
- Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. An alcohol-based hand sanitizer can be used if soap and water are not available
- Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
