Dominique Jackson Goes Viral While Annihilating the Mugler Runway Show

Mother Elektra defines what it means to be legendary on the runway. Dominique Jackson is no stranger to the runway, as she is a legend in the ballroom community. She also plays the iconic role of Elektra in the Emmy nominated show, POSE. Jackson has won countless awards and has received recognition for runway and face categories. This mugler moment has been something that she’s been ready for, giving everyone a run for their money.

Part two of Mugler’s 2021 Spring/Summer season, Casey Cadwallader, director of Mugler, has Jackson and other starlets strut in the latest collection. The dramatic, yet highly trippy short video showcases the models moving in reverse, with remix transitions. It’s a euphoric experience. “I’ve always wanted models to break into dance on the runway or to do something, but when it’s a live show it’s very risky,” Cadwallader told Vogue. “The runway can be intense and scary, and the audience is often exhausted, but when you’re doing a film you can mess around play, and edit.”

Jackson, known as the Tyra Allure Ross Margiela, was in a blazer-mid runway matched with a figure-hugging, sheer chic garment. The background music has ballroom-inspired beats, adding the extra flare to Jackson’s runway. The unconventional walk is most noticeable. It garnered the attention of Black Twitter, and Jackson has been trending for the past couple of days because of it.

This is not the first time the designer has worked with the ballroom community. In 2020,  ChaChou Miyake-Mugler and Kendall Miyake-Mugler, who are in the ballroom scene in Paris, appeared in the Mugler Resort 2020 campaign. Trans activist Hunter Schafer of Euphoria, walked alongside Jackson within the seven-minute video. The day of the video release, it was also International Transgender Day of Visibility. “For me, all bodies need to be designed for, not just skinny bodies, although, even skinny bodies sometimes have a bigger butt or boob,” Cadwallader told Vogue. “The clothes help you out with that instead of making you feel bad for having them. I’m celebrating different body shapes.”

Mugler showcased his first part of the Spring/Summer collection back in October. It included a virtual display, similar to the one he just dropped, evoking the same cutting-edge vibe. It featured a CGI presentation of Bella Hadid as a flying pegasus. “I wanted it to feel like[…]a very action-packed trailer,” Cadwallader told WWD at the time.
