Mayor Bowser Announces Funding for 2020 DC HOPE Community Grants

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that non-profit organizations in the District of Columbia are eligible to apply for federal grant money, provided through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, to support community social distancing engagement and public health awareness outreach efforts. The grant application will be available online starting today. The deadline to apply is Tuesday, June 9, at 5 pm.

“This critical funding will help us support local community-based organizations that are connecting our vulnerable populations across all eight wards with resources, services, and guidance during the public health emergency,” said Mayor Bowser. “With a focus on Health, Opportunity, Prosperity, and Equity, these grants will provide a sense of hope that even in times of unprecedented crisis, we can live up to our DC values.”

The 2020 DC HOPE Community Grants will provide a total of $10 million in funding to support programs that address the District’s public health emergency priorities as it relates to coronavirus (COVID-19) in the following areas:

Increasing buy-in and participation in disease investigation/contact tracing process
Purchase and distribution of personal protection equipment
Social distancing protective measures
Public health awareness
Connecting residents to testing sites and health care providers

The 2020 DC HOPE Community Grants will be administered by the Mayor’s Office of Community Affairs (MOCA). District based non-profits will be able to apply for up to $50,000.

“This is a promise delivered to our community partners throughout the District of Columbia,” said MOCA Director Lamont Akins. “We are grateful to our non-profit partners for their continued outreach efforts to our most vulnerable residents before and throughout this public health emergency. This grant will serve as a beacon of HOPE for our non-profits and allow them to continue to facilitate community needs as quickly and efficiently as possible.”

Organizations interested in applying should go to moca.dc.gov for additional information and to sign up for the Pre-Bidders Virtual meeting scheduled for Monday, June 1.
