MPD’s Victim Services Branch Launches First Annual Domestic Violence Awareness Day

The Metropolitan Police Department’s (MPD) Victim Services Branch (VSB) will be launching the first annual MPD Domestic Violence Awareness Day on Wednesday, October 16th from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm in front of MPD Headquarters, 300 Indiana Avenue, Northwest, Washington, DC.

The theme of this event is titled Break the Cycle. Domestic violence typically follows a cycle of stages that physically, mentally, and emotionally inhibit victims from leaving relationships. The cycle of violence is repeated from one generation to the next. It becomes like a cycle, never ending, unless we do something to break that cycle.

Through this event, MPD is taking a proactive stance cycling against domestic violence by seeking new ways to engage and educate our community about this issue.

During this event, the members of the VSB will unite with citizens, victims, members of community organizations, and other MPD personnel to demonstrate MPD’s continued support and dedication to serving victims and survivors of domestic violence. Community partners will be on site to distribute victim-service related resources and provide real-time services to victims and survivors such as counseling, brochures, safety plans, and more.

All are invited to come out to support victims and survivors of domestic violence, and learn about available community resources.
