About this Event

In honor of the 25th Anniversary of MLK Day of Service, The Mayor’s Office on Volunteerism and Partnerships (Serve DC) and DC Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking (DISB)cordially invite you to join us at Rise Up, Debt Down: A MLK Financial Empowerment Day of Service inspired by Dr. King’s 1968 speech “The Other America.”

Rise Up, Debt Down will feature four family friendly, interactive workshops designed to educate, inspire and equip residents with available resources and tools to ensure a fair shot for all of DC. In addition, we are excited to partner with the MLK Feed My Hood Day of Action to provide over 1,000 families with care packages.

Interested in creating a more financially equitable society for all, then join us for our MLK Day service by signing up to attend one or more of the workshops listed below:

12:30pm – 1:30pm – It’s A Family Affair: From savings to financial aid, join us and bring the kids to learn how families can work together across generations to meet their financial goals.

12:30pm – 1:30pm – Boss Up, Legacy Building: If you are convinced that you want to be your own boss and have what it takes to succeed, then this workshop is for you. Join us to learn how to start your own business, access funding and ultimately scale.

1:45pm – 2:45pm – The Road to Homeownership: Homeownership is often a first step to creating a financially empowered roadmap. If you are considering homeownership, it’s never too early to start planning. Join us as we take you through the practical steps to becoming a homeowner.

1:45pm – 2:45pm – The Truth About Credit: Credit plays an important role in our society. It is often misunderstood and misused, which can have a negative impact on our lives for many years. Join us to learn about the importance of credit, budgeting and to obtain tips on how to properly correct and restore your credit.
