Arrest Made in a Homicide: 2700 Block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, Southeast

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Sunday, August 18, 2019, in the 2700 block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, Southeast.
At approximately 12:47 am, members of DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the listed location for the report of an unconscious person. Upon arrival, members located an unconscious adult male. The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
On Monday, August 20, 2019, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
On Thursday, August 22, 2019, the DC Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death as complications from injuries from blunt force trauma and ruled the manner of death a Homicide.
The identity of the decedent is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
On Thursday, August 22, 2019, 47-year-old Edward Banks, of Northwest, DC, was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder While Armed.
The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
