MPD and the DC Police Foundation to Host Heroes & Helpers Event at Target

Tuesday, December 10, 2019

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) would like to announce the annual Heroes & Helpers event taking place on Wednesday, December 11, 2019. Approximately 100 pre-selected children, ranging in age from 5 to 17, will partner with an MPD officer to shop for holiday gifts at Target. Members of the news media are invited to attend.

The Heroes & Helpers program fosters strong community relationships by pairing public safety officials with underserved youth to shop for the children’s families during the holidays. Preselected children and their families will gather on the top level of the DC USA retail complex by the Target store in Columbia Heights to be paired with officers.

“There’s a reason why we continue to do this event every year – it’s a chance for our officers to connect with young people and give back to those in need during the holidays,” said Chief of Police Peter Newsham. “We are grateful for the DC Police Foundation’s support to continue this annual tradition.”

WHEN: Wednesday, December 11, 2019
Check-in at 11:00 AM
Shopping is from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM

WHERE: Participants will gather on the top level of the DC USA retail complex,
3100 14th St NW

This event is made possible through support from the Washington DC Police Foundation, Target and Panera, who is catering 200 meals for officers and youth participants.
